Freedom Ranch Wild Horse & Burro Rehabilitation

...where horses can learn to be horses again...

Freedom Ranch.....History and Facts

Since 1998, Cheryl Eastep of Byers, Colorado, has been taking in abandoned, abused and neglected "wild horses" and burros. For the past 12 years, she has been providing shelter, feed and medical care to any horse in need, but primarily focus on horses that aren't suitable for "conventional rescues".

Freedom Ranch specializes in gentling, rehabilitating and adopting the horses out to new families, although some of the horses will stay forever. Facilities include BLM approved pens and gentling areas that are capable of containing even the wildest mustangs!

The ranch is built on 40 acres and none of the horses are confined to stalls unless they are on medical watch. Using 4 different pastures, new arrivals are matched up with the herd that best suits them. All of the animals on the ranch have free access to shelter, though during cold winter nights, some of the older horses are brought into the barn where they stay cozy and warm. Although Freedom Ranch does not breed, we have foaling stalls for pregnant rescues and medical stalls inside the barn where we can provide the best available care to all of our residents.
